Workington Town Centre Mosaic, Cumbria

The mosaic was part of a major town renovation scheme. The brief: to celebrate Workington, past and present. It covers approximately 11 square metres and is sail shaped, to fit in an asymmetrical seating area, and as a reference to Workington’s ship building past. The mosaic is composed of Italian smalti motifs set in a background of grey and green Westmorland Slate, especially cut for this project. The project was commissioned by Allerdale Borough Council.
