Petersfield Town Map, Hampshire
Commissioned by the Hampshire Sculpture Trust and funded by local bodies, the mosaic map formed part of a scheme to renovate Dragon Street. The map is 3.5 metres long, 2.1 metres high, and is in a prominent position by the main bus stop. It is made using unglazed ceramic and gold leaf tiles. The design process involved a public consultation meeting and workshops in local schools, and was influenced by an ancient mosaic map of Jerusalem, and by modern map symbols and icons. The map is a decorative feature that gives relevant information about the town and also sets it in a historical context.
