The Grizedale Mosaic
Residency awarded by The Grizedale Society, Cumbria. The mosaic, measuring five metres across, was made in situ in Grizedale Forest in the Lake District from natural materials: Westmorland slate, Welsh slate and fragments of quartz. The design features five indigenous animals – an otter, a deer, a fox, a hare, and a badger. It was an updated version of a traditional Roman mosaic ‘circus’ pattern, adapted to the particular environment of Grizedale.
