Public Art Commissions
Rosalind has always considered it an honour to be asked to carry out a commission for a public space. "If you're asking the public to live with a work of art it's got to be good. They're owed the very best I can do."
Rosalind has carried out public art commissions up and down the country, and has a record of producing popular and imaginative artworks. Projects include: a mosaic map in Petersfield, Hampshire; a public swimming pool in Crediton, Devon; a commemorative mosaic in Cadzow Glen, Hamilton; and a mosaic map in Coventry Canal Basin.
Each project is unique and provides a fresh challenge. In order to create an artwork that's imaginative and relevant, Rosalind will carry out research, and hold public meetings if required: contact and good relations with the public and local media are important and lead to a successful and well-received project.
Artworks in public areas need to be durable, and mosaic is a tough medium, requiring little maintenance. Rosalind takes care to select appropriate and high quality materials for a project.
Often the mosaic is part of an overall scheme involving major construction work. Rosalind is experienced in liaising with town planners, architects, engineers, and the construction industry, and in dealing with the constraints of deadlines and budgets. She is also experienced in involving local people in projects.
